Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business travel insurance: what it actually covers
Trip delay pays up to $500 per traveller once a flight is delayed more than 6 hours or forces an overnight stay. You have 60 days from the delay to open the claim.
Every figure below is read from Chase’s own Guide to Benefits, BGC11419, read on 2026-08-05. Not from a comparison site.
Everything the card covers
| Benefit | Pays up to | Per | File within |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto rental damage | $75,000 | trip | 100 days |
| Trip cancellation | $10,000 | traveller | 20 days |
| Trip interruption | $10,000 | traveller | 20 days |
| Lost or damaged baggage | $3,000 | traveller | 20 days |
| Emergency medical | $2,500 | traveller | 90 days |
| Trip delay | $500 | traveller | 60 days |
| Baggage delay | $500 | traveller | 20 days |
What each one means in practice
Auto rental damage
Primary cover, which is rare. It pays before your own motor insurance rather than after, so you can decline the rental counter’s damage waiver without involving your insurer at all.
That applies to business rentals only. Rent for a holiday on this card and the cover drops back to secondary.
The entire cost has to go on this card. A partial payment does not qualify.
Trip cancellation
The limit is per person rather than per trip, so a family of four on one booking can reach $40,000 rather than $10,000.
Trip interruption
The limit is per person rather than per trip, so a family of four on one booking can reach $40,000 rather than $10,000.
Lost or damaged baggage
The limit is per person rather than per trip, so a family of four on one booking can reach $12,000 rather than $3,000.
Emergency medical
The limit is per person rather than per trip, so a family of four on one booking can reach $10,000 rather than $2,500.
There is a $50 deductible.
Trip delay
Six hours is an unusually low threshold. Most cards start at twelve, including cards from the same issuer, so this one reaches delays the others miss.
An overnight stay counts even when the delay is shorter than that.
Air traffic control delays are not on the covered list, which catches people out because it is one of the most common reasons a flight runs late.
The limit is per person rather than per trip, so a family of four on one booking can reach $2,000 rather than $500.
Baggage delay
The limit is per person rather than per trip, so a family of four on one booking can reach $2,000 rather than $500.
It pays $100 a day for up to 5 days, not $500 at once.
Baggage has to be delayed more than 6 hours, measured from when you arrive rather than when the bag was checked.
